How browser-based PDF merging works
Most online PDF mergers upload your file to a server, run a command-line tool there, and email or stream the result back. That model has three problems: the file leaves your device (a privacy concern for legal, healthcare, and financial documents), the upload itself takes time, and the operator can store or scan the contents whether they admit it or not. InstantFileTools runs the merge inside your browser using pdf-lib, an open-source PDF library that compiles to JavaScript. Your PDFs are loaded into browser memory, the pages are appended to a new document, and the result is written back as a Blob you can download. The server hosting this page has no API endpoint that accepts file content. There is nothing to leak.
When you would use this tool
- Combining contract drafts — append signed signature pages to a master document without leaking the draft to a third-party server.
- Submitting bundled exhibits — court filings, grant applications, and tender submissions usually require a single combined PDF.
- Stitching scanned pages — when a multi-page document was scanned one page at a time, merge them back into one file.
- Producing a year-end pack — bundle invoices, receipts, and bank statements into a single PDF for your accountant.
Privacy guarantee
This page has no upload form, no XHR endpoint that accepts file bodies, and no server-side rendering of file content. Every line of the merge code runs in your browser. If you turn off your network connection after the page loads, the merge still works.
