When this tool is enough — and when it isn't
Use this tool when: you need to sign a document for yourself, send it back to someone, and move on. Examples: a vendor contract, a school permission slip, a one-off NDA you've received and need to return.
Use a dedicated e-signature platform (PandaDoc, DocuSign) when: you need someone else to sign, you need an audit trail for compliance, you're managing a multi-party workflow, or your industry requires identity verification (legal, healthcare, real estate). For those cases, a free in-browser signer is the wrong tool no matter how convenient.
Is an electronic signature legally binding?
In most jurisdictions, yes — and has been for over two decades. The U.S. ESIGN Act (2000) and the EU eIDAS Regulation (2014/2016) both grant electronic signatures the same legal standing as wet-ink signatures for most contracts. Some categories — wills, family law in some states, certain notarised documents — still require wet ink or qualified electronic signatures.
How we do it
You draw or type your signature on a canvas. We render the PDF using PDF.js, embed your signature as a PNG image at the chosen position using pdf-lib, and produce a new PDF as a Blob you can download. Everything runs in your browser. The page has no API endpoint that accepts file content.
