Edit PDF text without uploading files
The PDF editor can change text already present in a PDF document. Your file stays in the browser and is not uploaded. The editor works by covering the original text and writing new text at the same position, rather than rewriting the underlying PDF content stream.
This approach is intended for supported single-line Latin text and does not preserve every original font or layout. Some PDFs contain scanned text, embedded fonts, vertical text or complex forms that cannot be edited reliably with this method.
Check whether your PDF can be edited
Open the PDF in a reader and try selecting the text you want to change. If the words can be selected, the document contains a text layer and editing may be possible. If the page is an image or scan, use OCR first to extract and correct the text separately, then rebuild the document.
Make text changes and verify the result
- Open the PDF editor and add your document.
- Navigate to the page containing the text you need to change.
- Select the text element, make your edits and apply the changes.
- Review all edited pages in the preview to confirm text placement and readability.
- Download the edited PDF and open it in a separate PDF reader.
- Inspect the changed text at normal viewing size and check for font differences, spacing issues or misaligned text.
The editor also supports page operations such as rotation, removal, reordering, extraction and splitting. For page-only edits, these operations work on a wider range of documents.
Understand the limitations
Text replacement is not lossless. The editor does not have access to every original font, so the replacement text may use a substitute font. Complex layouts, multi-line paragraphs, right-to-left text, vertical text and text wrapped around images may not preserve the original appearance.
Make only the changes you need and keep the original document. Compare the edited version with the source before sharing it. If the replacement text does not align correctly or uses an incompatible font, the recipient may notice the difference.
When a different workflow is needed
If the PDF contains form fields, use a form-filling tool that preserves field definitions. If the document needs substantial rewriting, converting to Word and editing the text there may give better results, though layout will change.
For scanned documents, OCR followed by manual text correction and reformatting in a word processor is more reliable than attempting to edit the rendered image. For repeated edits or template updates, editing the source document and re-exporting to PDF is the most dependable approach.
Privacy and browser processing
The PDF editor processes files locally in your browser. No upload is required for text editing, page rotation, removal, reordering or extraction. Keep the original and edited files separate so they cannot be confused, and verify the output before sharing sensitive documents.
